How to forward your Outlook 2007 email automatically to another email address. Useful for when you are going away on vacation, or using a different email address for a certain period of time.
Guides
- In Outlook 2007, from the Tools menu, select Rules and Alerts. From the Email Rules tab, choose New Rule…
- Select under Start from a blank rule select Check messages when they arrive and click Next.
- If you wish to only forward certain messages, you can select conditions for each message that gets forwarded. If you want all your messages to be forwarded, leave everything unchecked. You will get a message This rule will be applied to every message you receive. Is this correct? Select Yes.
- Check forward it to people or distribution list. In the lower pane, click people or distribution list.
- This will open the Rule Address window with the address book. Search for the the email address(es) to which you would like to forward your mail. You can also just type the full email addresses in the To field. Click OK then Next when done.
- The box to setup exceptions appears. Select any exceptions you would like to apply to this rule and click Next. Most users leave this blank.
- Under Specify a name for this rule, give your rule a name. Check the box for Turn on this rule if you would like Outlook to start forwarding messages now. Check Run this rule now on messages already in “Inbox” (rarely used) if you would like Outlook to forward everything that is already in your Inbox . Click Finish and you’re done.

On the list of things that will confuse someone new to the world of the Ubuntu operating system, installing programs is right at the top. Certain programs you’ll be used to using in Windows or on a Mac have Ubuntu equivalents that work just as well if not better. Certain programs have Ubuntu-specific versions that will install quite easily. Certain programs like Yahoo! Messenger, for example, are unfortunately not compatible. All hope is not lost, however. There are ways to get around this. By following just a few simple steps you can have Yahoo! Messenger up and running on Ubuntu in no-time.
Instructions
- Install Wine. Wine is what is known as a “transition layer,” which is a fancy way of saying that it is a program capable of running Windows programs on other operating systems. It is a bit like an emulator, but the Wine development team would rather you not call it that. Installation files for Wine can be obtained by selecting “Synaptec Package Manager” under the “System” tab in Ubuntu and searching for “Wine.”
- Download the Yahoo! Messenger installer as normal. This is an executable file with a .exe file extension that contains all the files and instructions necessary to install the program on your machine. On the Yahoo! Messenger webpage select the “Download” tab near the top of the page, and then select “Download Now” from the page that loads. Save the file to your Desktop for easy access for the next step.
- Execute the Yahoo! Messenger .exe file. If Wine has been properly installed, Ubuntu will automatically load the setup.exe file within Wine, which will cause the normal program setup dialog boxes to appear with instructions to follow just as if you were installing within Windows.
- The worst case scenario is that you’ll click on the setup.exe and a box will pop up with a list of programs that could possible recognize a .exe extension, and you’ll select “Wine” from said list. After that just follow the setup instructions as normal to complete the installation. Yahoo! Messenger can then be used exactly the way it would be on a computer running the Windows Operating System.
Instead of installing Yahoo! Messenger, consider using one of the many Ubuntu-based programs that do the same thing. Pidgin for example is an IM client that comes pre-installed with Ubuntu and can manage Buddy Lists from multiple clients (Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Windows Messenger) all within the same program. It can be found under the “Internet” tab.

Google makes instant messaging easy by embedding an IM service in its Gmail accounts. With Google Talk, users are able to chat with their Gmail contacts and contacts from other IM accounts. It is also possible for Gmail users to free voice-to-voice computer calls and send video messages to their contacts. Configuring Google Talk on a Mac is easy and the features are limitless.
Instructions
- Make sure you have OSX Tiger installed on your computer. Older versions of Mac OS are not compatible with the Google Talk service.
- Open iChat on your desktop. Locate the icon in the “Applications” folder on your Mac.
- Select the “Preferences” option from the iChat menu.
- Choose the “Accounts” option and select the “+” button. This enables you to add a new account.
- Open the “Account Type” menu. Choose the “Jabber Account” option from the list. If you are using a Gmail or Google Mail user name, enter your entire email address into the dialog box using the following format: username@gmail.com. If your Google Talk name isn’t associated with any type of Google account, add “@gmail.com” after your user name. If you sign in using Google Apps, enter your full email address.
- Enter your password into the dialog box. In the “Server” box enter “talk.google.com.” Click “Add.”
- Highlight the account you just added In the “Accounts” section. Choose the “Server Settings” option.
- Confirm that the follow is entered appropriately:
Server: talk.google.com
Port: 5223
Be sure that all of the boxes are checked. Enter “iChat” in the Location Field.
- To activate the account on the iChat list, choose the “Log into Jabber” option.
To use the talk feature, download Google Talk to your computer through the Google website. This feature is ready to use after downloading the program if you have properly configured the iChat to your Google messaging accounts.
